I'm addicted to a new show on t.v. called "What Would You Do?" It sets unsuspecting people up in situations that require them to make a moral decision, then shows their actions and follows up by asking these people why they made their respective choices. Not only does it point out how moralistically messed up our society is becoming, but it is a fantastic reminder that we need to carry out our daily lives WITH MORALS!
As time speeds by and we feel more rushed and "stressed", we somehow got a chip on our shoulders and decided that although others should really be better citizens, it's okay if we blow it off when we really need to. It's okay to drive like maniacs because the people on the road don't know us anyhow; the unknown is like a license to be insensitive and immoral.
It reminds me of the wave of popularity a few years back of the Christian reminder people wore on bracelets or bumper stickers: What Would Jesus Do? As much I do think it's important to consider Jesus' values and sacrifices and His expectations for us, I think it's just as important to consider What I Like Done To Me. Do I like to be tailgated? Do I like to be dismissed? Do I like those who condescend when speaking to me? Do I like those who cut in line? Do I like it when others greet me politely? It's the golden rule on the most basic level. Treat others as you wish to be treated...whatever happened to the famous Golden Rule anyway? Gotta remember to bring that one back into style...at least in my own family....
